ACHIEVING & SUSTAINING GREATNESS

Greetings to you, my reader.

Am writing this piece today, because am certain that after applying all i have communicated to you via my previous write-up, that your GREATNESS is assured... Nothing can stop your greatness.... But achieving greatness is one thing and sustaining greatness is another thing, i said this because I have seen the high and mighty fall before my very eyes, mostly because of CHARACTER DEFECT.... Character is the primary idea in this piece...I bring this piece to you today, to avoid making the mistakes others made and got back to square-0 not even square-1(former state)... There are character traits that lead to and sustain Greatness.... I will mention and explain few of them but let me quickly explain what CHARACTER is, in this context..

There is this true saying that "Talent will take you up but character will bring you down".......You see how important it is, to have or develop a strong character that will keep you up there.....Character is really everything...If you couldn't get good character from your pedigree, please you can train yourself and develop good character traits that lead to and sustain Greatness....Your parents must not give or teach you everything you need in life.....Stop blaming people for your own mistakes...I know people who didn't come out from a well-behaved background but they are well-behaved, themselves....So you are inexcusable!!!  When i hear people say "That is how we behave in our family; ....We have anger, etc....I laugh!!!!

That's not a good one please...you can come out of it and experience a better life than other family members...

There are people they call "Talent miss road"......They have very good talent(s) but their unpleasant character has deflected them....Like a deflected car tyre, which can go nowhere......That's how it is..

CHARACTER IS A PERSON'S PERSONALITY; The totality of a person's behavioural pattern... Simply, how a person behaves... How a person handles matters, situations, opportunities and privileges, etc.....You may have heard people say, is not in my character to do this or that!!! 

Now, let me come to the nitty-gritty of this piece, which is those character traits that can make or mar a person's destiny....It will make you, if you make good use of them and the reverse will be the case if you lack them..Just to mention a few..

(3) Honesty

(4) Humility

(5) Honour

(6) Rationality/Kindness

(7) Dedicated

(8) Reliability

(9) Strong-willed/Resilience

(10) Anger management/Emotional Intelligence

APPEAL TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS

Greetings to you, my reader.....

I want to use this piece to appeal to our dear parents/guardians, to please painstakingly pay attention to your children/wards' innate abilities....... If our parents are able to do this well, then they can harness those innate abilities which in turn, will be very useful to them and the society at large.... some parents/guardians are fond of cajoling their children to pick-up courses that don't align with their Innate abilities, because of a reason or the other....That's why Nigeria produces many intelligent but unproductive graduates....Atimes, half-baked graduates, that can do nothing......

I advise anyone who wants to gain admission into the Higher Institution, to first of all, sit-down and identify those innate skill(s) he/she has, before considering a course of study.... Aspiring-students should stop choosing courses randomly or any course thrown at them by the Higher Institution..... I was asking a little family friend the other day, which course she is studying!!!! She said " Aunty, am studying English" and i asked her to give me a cogent reason she chose the course.... Do you know what her reply was.... "Aunty, I didn't choose the course o, the course chose me" and I said, the course chose you, how? She said, "that was the only course available to me at that time".... She just wanted to enter the university on time, graduate and be addressed as a graduate, just like the others..... No, that's not the main reason, for Education... we really need to get it right now......

I was telling a friend the other day, that i need to propose to the next Nigerian president (Buhari's term is almost over) to Establish a High-Tech NIGERIAN SKILL ACQUISITION CENTRE, for both soft skills and artisan skills and related skills( This can help in attracting foreign investors, because they will know that we are also very good at our skills)...... Reasons being that, it is a good way of curbing, the increasing rate of  Unemployment among our graduates..... Can I tell you? This unemployment menace in Nigeria is greater with graduates than non-graduates.... Do you know why?

The mindset we have in this country(including me, then) Let's go to the university, come out and get a high-paying job and become rich; that's all, but a non-graduate already knows that he/she has no employable certificate, so he quickly goes to learn a skill(s) and set up his life, while a university graduate stays idle for years looking for a white-collar job, which are limited....... White-collar jobs are good, if you can get one as a graduate but can i tell you something..... Both white-collar job and blue-collar job needs skills....

Have you asked yourself, why are you required to write these on your CV!!!!!! .............Your Skills, strength and weakness..... This is because once an employer employs you, what the employer is paying for, are your skills and the time you invest, using your skills for the advancement of the organization.... You see, either way, you need a skill(s)............ Let me quickly say this, for most people, once they hear " Go learn a skill(s), the only thing that  quickly comes to their mind is blue-collar job skills( i.e. Artisan skills and related skills)...........Like the University under-graduate who lampooned those who tell students to go learn a skill(s) because of ASUU strike, to make the best use of their time........There are skills called soft skills, which one of them is DIGITAL SKILLS..... like; copywriting, content writing, digital marketing, photo/video editing, social media management, data entry, coral draw, digital research, editing/proofreading........just to mention a few, the list is very large.. You can be a good freelancer with these digital skills and make a lot of money..... When you have the required skills, you can be a remote staff( virtual staff) 

Do you know a freelancing platform called UPWORK, FIVERR, etc... You can stay in Nigeria and be working for an International company and get paid in dollars.... Only few Nigerians have taken advantage of this, some don't have the required soft skills to work with them, because they easily hire the good ones... 

FREELANCER..... A freelancer is one who is not employed by a particular person/company but can use his/her skills to work for many companies at the same time.... A freelancer charges, per job..... A freelancer doesn't have a permanent employer.... He/she is free to work for anyone at any time, so long as his/her strength can carry it........ I do your job, you pay me and I go my way, till you have another paid job, you want me to do for me.... That's a FREELANCER... 

HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR TALENT(S)

Greetings to you, my reader,

Today, I want to write about talent pointers... What i mean by talent pointers are those habits and characters of a person, that gears towards a skill(s) (I will define habit and character towards the end of this piece)....

Let me give you, an example of what am talking about;

I have this pretty little cousin, when she was about 7 years old, we call her Barrister!!!! We started calling her Barrister, because we have carefully observed something about her, which is;.   At that tender age, she can argue about something, with adults, giving strong reasons and finally wins the argument...... You see!!! This is a pointer that she can be a good lawyer/good marketer, etc because she has a convincing ability!!! Even when she is wrong, the boldness that is exhibited in her can even convince you, that thinks you know the correct thing.... This is one of the ways to identify one's potential(s)

Secondly, carefully study a person's likes and dislikes.... It could also be a pointer.

Thirdly, If the person is still a student, get to know the subjects or courses he/she does well in, and enjoy discussing...... Like me, when i was in Junior secondary, I enjoy discussing, mostly social studies, Commerce , English and Home Economic s..... and I usually have high grades in those subjects...

Fourthly, look at the person's qualities....let me mention a few qualities; .............Attention to details, quick thinker, pro-active, perfectionist, sympathetic, solution-profferer/problem solving, optimistic, curiosity, Sociability....Just to mention a few....So all these qualities I have mentioned also point at certain innate skills...

Let me quickly mention that, there are INNATE SKILLS AND ACQUIRED SKILLS.

There is a theory that says,  "EVERYONE HAS 4 PANS:::    It is a theory in Mass Communication (Am a graduate of Mass Communication).

PAN-A...........Things you know about yourself and people don't know those things about you...(There are abilities you are aware, that you have but people are not aware yet until you start using them)

PAN-B............Things both you and people know about you....( There are also abilities you have exhibited over time, so both you and people are aware of them)

PAN-C...........Things people know about and you don't know those things about yourself..( people have told me a lot of positive things I didn't know about my abilities, is just now am trying to look at those things and am seeing they are true about me)

PAN-D...........Things both you and people are yet to discover about you....( There are abilities you have now, that neither you nor people have discovered about you) You need to really stretch yourself before those skills can be discovered.... Stop shying away from responsibilities just because you feel you wouldn't be able do it right.... Do it and fail, then learn from your mistakes and move on.....You are on a journey of discovering the unknown part of you and mistakes are allowed at the beginning....CONGRATS on your anticipated trial...

HABIT......This means an action performed repeatedly and automatically by a person.. (Atimes without realising it)....

CHARACTER.......This means a distinguish feature, characteristics; and traits of a person..

"THIS LIFE NO BALANCE"

Greetings to you, my reader....

Whenever i hear this common statement, "This life no balance".... I laugh!!!.... Do you know why i laugh? whenever i hear the above statement.....I laugh because i know that  this life is actually very balanced.. Infact, let me write it in naija pidgin English!!!  "This life balance, wella"... Over balance dey worry this life sef!!!!..... (Smiles).... You hear me?!!!!

I will tell you why I said and still saying, that this life is very balanced.....Everything in this life has both advantages and disadvantages.... Whatever you see that has advantages, look deep-down, you  will also see the disadvantages and whatever you see that has disadvantages, still look deep-down and you will see the advantages...The creator of the universe (God) made this life to be balanced, let no one tell you otherwise...... just that some people have not looked well enough to see and understand how balanced this life is.

I picked out this topic from my last piece, where I talked about, how some people feel that their inborn ability (talent) is insignificant...I want to remind you again that no talent is absolutely more important than the other..... Every talent is very important in its own context, no matter how some people feel about it, that does matter.....That some people feel that, your own talent is insignificant, does not make it a proven truth...Saying that, there is an insignificant talent(s) is like saying.....not every part of the body is important....

Can I tell you something, today!!!!!  No matter how talented a person is, there are other things, that same person can't do well that you can do so well (that is why you have something to learn from every single person you encounter in this journey called Life)..........

Is you, am talking to....You!! You!! You!!....Am talking to you that feel other people are better than you because they have talents that are well utilized......you can also utitize that your own talent and be the best in your own world......Do you know that, simple skilled cleaning job has taken some people far in life...My mum usually say this. " Anything worth doing at all is worth doing well" so anywhere you find yourself in life, try and be the best version of yourself and greatness is assured....pls permit me to quote this scripture..........................Prov.22.29 - Do you see a man diligent and skillful in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men......

Let me tell you a little story.... There is this very young guy in my church and a family friend....This guy found out that he likes modeling photos and he is good at it... He usually sends pictures on facebook, where he poses like a real model, which he wasn't,  atleast as at 2 years back...He was just doing that as a hobby, exhibiting his talent/hobby without knowing that an International Company will see him on Facebook....The International company  picked him up from facebook, all expenses paid trip, abroad....He is now modeling for real, for the International Company abroad, am sure you know what that means...This is typical of how life is...You never can tell where that your little talant, you see as insignificant or you allow others help you see as insignificant, can take you in life until you try.....

You are born to be great!!!! Oh yes!!! (there is too much greatness in you, waiting to be unleashed)......Please don't deny the world that greatness in you......We need it, even if you don't need it.... please get that into your mind...let it form part of your mindset ok...

GREATNESS IN YOU - PART 2 (REASONS PEOPLE DONT ATTAIN GREATNESS)

Greetings to you, my reader.

Am glad to be here once again, to do what I love doing but before I proceed with this piece, I need to clearly explain what I mean by the word "POTENTIAL"...

POTENTIAL (IN MY OWN WORDS) MEANS THOSE ABILITIES THAT ARE INBORN IN YOU......... THE NATURAL GIFTS OR TALENTS YOU WERE BORN WITH.....( OFTEN TIMES, YOU DONT EVEN NOTICE IT, UNTIL YOUR ATTENTION IS CALLED TO IT)

Those things you find yourself doing with ease...... It can even be a hobby....... You just notice that others struggle to do it like you do it, but to you it is very simple and easy to do (Think about it and get back to me).

REASONS PEOPLE DONT ATTAIN GREATNESS VIA POTENTIALS:(please read my previous post for a better understanding of this piece)

(1)  Often times, people are not aware that they were born with abilities, that are meant for them to polish, package and use, to attain greatness in life.

(2)  Most people that are aware, they have inborn abilities, don't know exactly how to go about it...They don't know how to start the journey of maximizing their talents, to attain greatness...that's why you must follow me, in this expository journey to greatness..

(3) This one is really serious; Some other people think that their inherent talents are so insignificant and can't be needed by anyone, therefore, been unsellable ( when I hear this one, I smile because there is no iota of truth in this mindset, that's why you also need to change your mindset....I will handle MINDSET as a full topic, later)

NOTE: Few persons know that everything on this face of the earth is sellable, depending on how best it is packaged and presented, can I deviate a bit.....

There are 2 major facts about marketing; 

(a) Marketing what the masses already know they need...

(b) Creating a fresh need for the masses and marketing it... Many people don't know they have some needs, until it is opened up for them and many have needs that the solutions haven't been created yet, so they are still waiting for who will create the solutions... You need to Create or re-define a need and its solution;  sell it to the right target audience....Create a niche!!!! 

Even talent is useful and needful no matter how insignificant it seems to some people...There are masses out there who are desperately in need of that your talent, you feel is unimportant... Strategically locate them, package the talent and present it to them and the rest is success story....

No talent is absolutely more important than the other, as no part of the body is more important than the other....Every talent is important in their own context ...( I will explain this in detail, later) That is why one of  the worse mistakes you can make in life, is to neglect anyone, because by your own Perception and permutation, they worth nothing...

(4) FEAR : Often times, you are aware of your talent(s) and how to go about it but the only challenge is that, you are afraid of failure( this begins with what if, this or that)....... A lot of unanswered questions on your mind... A lot of uncertainties. The fear of the unknown..... (This is also a big one, if you are in this category, you need help) Fear is a killer of great destiny, please come out of it.

(5) This one is what I hear often times, i don't have the financial muscle to pursue my dreams( Finance isn't the primary thing you need).. 

Conclusively, is only you that can stop yourself from been great in life, no one/ nothing else can... Once there is a will/hunger, there is always a way........ All things are possible for those that believe.... Impossibilities only exist on your mind.... What we often call "REALITY" is relative and not absolute.... Reality is a function of the mind... Your mindset is the world you see and know... There are more you can't see until you change your mindset....  Gradually change your mindset, as we go on this journey together and experience a better world and a better life..

.......What limites you is not what you don't have but what you have and don't know how to utilize to the fullest.

 Greetings to you, my reader..

I titled this write-up, ''Greatness in you'' because the untold truth is that, everyone is born with a measure of greatness, including the persons born with some kind of defect!! Oh yes!!

The creator of the universe (God) never created and will never create anyone without any potential. It has never happened before and will never happen..

I know you will ask me; 

If there is really a measure of greatness in everyone via potentials, why is it that a lot of people are not GREAT?

We will discuss the reasons, people don't attain greatness in life, in our next episode..
